ABIOP Methods for characterising and quantifying biofouling required for MRE system dimensioning and maintenance

Accreditation17/02/17
Total Budget:545.00 K€

The impact and scale of biofouling on MRE systems represent a major challenge for engineers in the design and maintenance phases. The aim of the ABIOP project is to provide reliable entry data required for the engineering design.

Initially, the project will focus on synthesising in-depth current knowledge of the nature of biofouling along different French maritime coastlines, and on the means to characterise and monitor it.

A range of protocols adapted to MRE sites and technologies will then be offered for characterising and monitoring biofouling.

Observation and quantification methods – based on image analysis and developing measuring technology – algorithms and statistical processing will be tested for pre-qualifications at four, easily accessible and pre-equipped pilot sites on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines.
