UMCB Mobile collection and grinding unit for processing and utilising shell waste

Accreditation12/06/20
Total Budget:563.00 K€

This project aims to process and add value to shell waste as part of the circular economy. It will help bring a new product to market: Kaomer®. This porcelain and ceramic paste is made from shells using a process developed by Alegina, the project developer.

UMCB focuses on the upstream part of the value chain, perfecting and scaling a mobile plant to collect and perform initial processing on oyster shells for use in Kaomer® and other materials currently being investigated.
Oyster producers will have a new outlet for recycling shells into a high-value-added output with an equally high profile, which will benefit the sector as a whole: a ‘local’, high-tech ceramic product.
