POLYSALGUE Improving our understanding of the food and health potential of polysaccharides derived from microalgae

Labelisation : 10/30/2015 - 00:00
Budget global : 2 828.00 K€

The diversity of marine environment microalgae is a key issue for fundamental research and for developing the commercial potential of new sources of exopolysaccharides. Little research on these has been done until now compared with those derived from bacterial strains, fungi, terrestrial plants and macroalgae.

POLYSALGUE is an interdisciplinary research project which will explore the production potential of uniquely structured soluble polysaccharides produced by microalgae in both sea and freshwater environments. The project is designed to improve understanding of the potential of these microalgae for the industrial development of hydrocolloids (texturing agents present in the majority of widely consumed products) and biological active agents.

The POLYSALGUE project is also recognised by the cluster Pôle Valorial.
