Samoc The role and function of the Southern Atlantic in global ocean circulation and climate
The aim of the SAMOC project, which is an integral part of the international research partnership on climate variability and change, is to develop a surveillance system in the South Atlantic. This will involve pursuing the research first launched in 2004 into different zones – South Africa, Drake’s Passage and the eastern and western edges of the South Atlantic.
The project consists of developing an observation network with the help of modelling tools to understand how the South Atlantic functions and its role in global ocean circulation and long-term climate predictions.
