Surveillance of the maritime space constitutes a major issue for defence, security and the environment. Satellite technologies for monitoring vessels based on AIS (Automatic Identification System) messaging and high-resolution imaging of the sea surface offer fresh possibilities, but the operational systems currently deployed lack the capacity to fully exploit the flow of satellite data available.

Against this background, the SESAME project intends to develop ‘Big Data’ approaches that rely on solutions for managing, analysing and visualising the flow of AIS and Sentinel satellite data. SESAME will develop hard and software infrastructure adapted to the volume of the data flows under consideration with a view to creating automatic warning documentation.
